Catholic Carnival 93: Scarlet & Gray Edition
It’s a week of great anticipation, in which we wear scarlet and gray and reflect on how much hangs on one game. How is this different than what happens each week at Mass? In fact, when we go to Mass and receive that Holy Eucharist, we are scoring a bigger win than the one we (hope) the Buckeyes score on Saturday. Hark, yell the fanatics, how can she blaspheme so? Well, yell back the professors, she’s having her degree revoked right away!
It’s a week of satire and thought here at the Catholic Carnival. Perhaps you’ve been here before, and you’ve wondered how you can join in. Go here, read what our fearless leader has written, and then make disciples of Catholic bloggers. Not much for being a submitter? Ah, yes, but we need hosts too! Look, a silly farm girl fanatic can do it…surely you can too!
Here’s to 12-0! :)
Blair Seeks Ban on Habits at Avant News
Kicking off this week’s Carnival with some satire, thank you very much. “Prime Minister Tony Blair said today he will seek a ban on all public displays of habits, the traditional garments worn by monks and nuns, calling them "marks of separation".” Go on over and read the rest of it, and see how long you can stay in your chair as you roll with hilarity.
Thus Spoke Zarathustra Book Review at GT
One take on Nietzsche's seminal work, Thus Spoke Zarathustra. Warning: potentially not a very Catholic take. (Included here because, well, because it was good reading, even if I disagreed with some of it and wasn’t so sure why it was submitted to this carnival.)

(I could only get through the second paragraph before the allure of the other posts in my inbox beckoned me away…)
No Such Thing As A Religion Called Christianity at Real Clear Religion“Hillaire Belloc in his commentary on modernism as a heresy states: "[t]here is no such thing as a religion called "Christianity" - there never has been such a religion". … With over 35,000 denominations and growing every day, the disunification of Christianity is destructive to not only Christ's message but also to our moral authority in our battle to save the West. The relativistic concept that no belief system or lifestyle is better than any other has led us down the path to where we fail to recognize good and evil in our midst.”

Katharine Jefferts Schori, the Anglican Church, and Irenicism at Steve Janke: Angry in the Great White North
Is Katharine Jefferts Schori, recently invested in the position of Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church (the Anglican Church in the US), up to dealing with such subtle theological questions facing her faithful such as irenicism? Irenicism? Until I started this piece, I had never heard of the word. The worrisome thing is that I wonder whether Jefferts Schori has ever heard of the word either.

The male hierarchy and how I deal with it at My Domestic Church
On pondering this then I realized God's purpose for the male priesthood. It's not because we gals can't do it. In fact we could do most of it very well from administrative to pastoral tasks. Rather it is for the benefit of the men, who have to step to the plate and fill these responsibilities. This is what makes them better people, and how the church helps us all to more fully work out our salvation as St. Paul says.
If I'm not off hiding somewhere with a good book, chances are I'm chasing a toddler or a Jack Russell (or sleeping, because every mom can use a nap!). I found Prince Charming and married him, and now we enjoy the idiosyncrasies of life in an old farmhouse. Oh yeah, and we root for the Buckeyes. Every time.
